POSITION SUMMARY:


This position requires a seasoned manager with experience integrating Environmental, Health and Safety (EH&S), and Responsible Business (RB) issues for a major and complex organization.  The incumbent will be involved in ‘hands on’ project management and change management.  Must lead the Americas EH&S community in the development of strategies and polices in the area of EH&S.  Liaison with other Norgren territories and IMI Group to ensure coordinated approach to EH&S management is key to this role. 


 


The role involves the provision of practical site EH&S advice and management systems work.  The incumbent will provide professional guidance, support and coaching to the operations, manufacturing, and human resources management on safety, health and environmental activities as dictated by local, regional, and national government safety authorities across the Americas with specific emphasis on manufacturing areas.  Working with site EH&S coordinators, this manager is responsible for the EH&S activities at each of our sites in the United States, Mexico, and Brazil.  Approximately 30% travel will be required.


 


KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • In conjunction with IMI’s corporate EH&S requirements and Norgren’s global strategy, create and implement EH&S and RB strategy for the Americas to drive improvements in all key areas.

  • Manage and oversee environmental site assessments with environmental engineering consultants, liaising with IMI Group as required.

  • As required, manage and negotiate all enforcement actions, notices of violation, informal settlement agreements, administrative orders and permit agreements. Represent the company on all contested enforcement actions, citations, informal conferences and settlement agreements.

  • Monitor legal requirements in all relevant territories and implement policies and initiatives to ensure regulatory compliance.

  • Advise senior management on the compliance status, costs and improvements on a regular basis.

  • In conjunction with best practices already developed for IMI corporate or Norgren globally, establish and share best practices and cultivate a culture where the multiple Norgren sites’ personnel recognize, report and take appropriate actions for violations of company guidelines and work practices.

  •  Create and disseminate EH&S metrics on a monthly basis. Provide information as necessary to the Norgren Europe/Global EH&S Manager and IMI’s Group Risk Management Department.

  • Implement and maintain EH&S management systems including, as appropriate, ISO 14000 Environmental Management Systems and OHSAS Safety Management Systems.

  • Ensure all sites respond and report all workplace injuries in a timely fashion.  Must develop detailed reporting systems, courses of action in response to injuries, and notification to governmental agencies and Norgren/IMI management as appropriate.

  • Lead or participate in accident/incident investigations and the development of recommendations/actions to prevent a recurrence.

  • Develop and deliver appropriate training programs that meet the regulatory requirements in all countries in which we operate.

  • Take the lead on matters concerning Responsible Business (Corporate Sustainability).  Inclusive in this is managing the reporting required in the areas of energy efficiency, customer engagement, supplier risk management, and health safety environmental.  Ensure all monthly reporting of EH&S and RB requirements are submitted in a timely fashion.

  • Conduct EH&S audits and report results on a regular basis

  • Coordinate Americas Region EH&S and RB activities with Europe/Global EH&S Manager and IMI Group Risk Management.

  • Participate in Americas HR Leadership meetings as required.

  • Coordinate the IMI CEO EH&S Award nomination and selection process for the Americas Region.

  • All other duties as assigned.


 


EXPERTISE REQUIRED:



  • Extensive experience of developing and implementing EH&S management systems in a multi-national organization.

  • Detailed knowledge of EH&S best practices and regulations from the USA, Mexico, and Brazil.

  • Significant experience developing risk management strategies at the plant and BU level 

  • EH&S Auditing Experience across multiple facilities

  • Highly skilled at identifying and developing good working relationships with all levels of management, employees and external authorities as well as appropriate internal Environmental, Health and Safety contacts.

  • Background in large, complex, global organizations with success driven by leading-edge technology in EH&S issues.

  • Incumbent must be able to effectively communicate with employees at all levels and influence desired change. 


 


SUPERVISION:


Must manage dotted line relationships with EH&S Safety Champions at each Norgren site.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:



  • 10+ years of manufacturing related experience in Environmental, Health & Safety management.

  • Sound knowledge of regulations and requirements; environmental policies and significant environmental impact of job activities in accordance with management systems, such as: ISO 14001 standard; OHSAS 18001, and ANSI Z10.

  • Related Undergraduate Degree (Environmental, safety, industrial hygiene, industrial risk management, safety management or manufacturing engineering is preferred).

  • Strong experience working in manufacturing in six sigma/lean/continuous improvement environments is preferred.

  • Fluency in English required.  Spanish and Portuguese fluency desirable.

  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) certification desirable.


 


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:


The incumbent must be able to ergonomically use fingers, hands and wrists for up to 9.5 hours daily on a consistent basis.  The incumbent must be physically able to perform the essential functions of the occupation without endangering the health and safety of themselves and/or fellow workers.


 


WORK PLACE SAFETY:


The incumbent is responsible for the Health, Safety, and Welfare of themselves, the environment and other people.  The incumbent must comply with all relevant EH&S training and instructions.  The incumbent must also help to maintain a ’safe’ & ’clean’ working environment and must use and keep clean any PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) provided by the company.


 


The incumbent must report any accidents, incidents, and near misses to supervisor or manager.  Must bring any dangerous/potentially dangerous situations or practices to the attention of supervisor and affected others.
