Serve as a BSTT Observer Controller/Trainer and subject matter expert in the area of Battle Staff training and digital tactical operations center (TOC) operations for BSTP and the Exportable Combat Training Capability (XCTC) Leader Training program. The BSTT Observer Controller/ Trainers provides Observer Controller and staff training support to battalions of the Army National Guard and other selected units as directed. The OC/T must be a subject matter expert in the areas of military training, military doctrine specific to the War Fighting Functions (WFF), military decision making processes (MDMP), constructive battalion staff training methodologies, and constructive training observer controller / trainer techniques. The OC/T has a working knowledge of governing regulations, and all other applicable directives relating to ARNG training. The OC / T must possess a working knowledge of current tactics, techniques and procedures for battalion battle staff training. OC/Ts will report directly to a BSTT Team Lead who then reports to BSTT Chief with OPCON status to the Battle Command Training Center (BCTC) at Ft. Leavenworth, KS.
Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in computer science, information systems, engineering or a mathematics-intensive discipline, or major field of study which either provided substantial knowledge useful in developing and managing training exercises or large, complex projects or is closely related to the work as described and required by the task. Solid military background with subject matter expertise in Battle Staff and TOC procedures in combined arms operations from battalion to division levels. Completed appropriate Military professional education courses for grade with minimum completion of the Captains Career Course (C3; formerly Officer Advanced Course) or appropriate NCO Professional Education Course (ie, SGM Academy, Battle Staff NCO Course, etc). Completion of the Intermediate Level Education Course (ILE; formerly CGSC - Command and General Staff College) highly desirable.
Requires 8-10 years experience. Retired or former military officer (Major/Lieutenant Colonel) or Senior NCO (MSG/SGM) with five or more years of progressive experience in military operations, training and training management; or five years of specialized experience in a position with duties commensurate to battle staff training. Recent Combat Training Center (CTC) or combat experience required (CTC OC/T experience desirable). A Combat Arms, Combat Support, or Combat Service Support Officer/Senior NCO with command or staff experience at Battalion, Brigade, and/or Division level and a thorough understanding of WFF functionality and integration. Highly desirable to have working knowledge and background in the Army Battle Command Systems (ABCS) and digital tactical operations center (TOC).
?Perform day to day duties as directed by the BSTT Chief and Team Lead as well as the BCTC leadership in support of Battalion Staff Training Program (BSTP) and XCTC OC/T mission requirements.
?Provide subject matter expert-level knowledge on battle staff training methods, the MDMP, digital tactical operation center (TOC) operations, and doctrine in one or more WFF areas.
?Develop, integrate, and execute training scenarios and programs of instruction (POI) to train battle staffs and leaders on current and emerging doctrine, the MDMP and battle staff operations.
?Serve as an OC/T during the execution of staff planning exercises (STAFFEX) and constructive simulation exercises (SIMEX) with heavy emphasis on mentoring / coaching staff officers / NCOs.
?Possess/maintain operator level knowledge of one or more the Army Battle Command Systems (ABCS) and how to leverage ABCS during staff planning and execution of tactical operations.
?Develop and conduct formal and informal after action reviews (AAR) during staff training events.
?Provide input into the design and content of the final Take Home Package for units participating in BSTP and XCTC exercises.
?Develop, integrate, and execute simulation-driven, constructive exercises (Janus or other directed simulations) using up to date planning techniques and methodologies.
?Develop and publish OPORDs that will serve as higher headquarters orders to facilitate the units training for MDMP and constructive simulation scenarios/databases.
?Perform other duties assigned by the BSTT Chief and Team Lead.
