Overview:
The Global Compensation Programs team is seeking an experienced compensation professional to support Microsoft’s strategic goals by designing and executing programs that keep Microsoft competitive for top talent!
The position is responsible for managing key executive compensation programs at Microsoft. The incumbent will focus primarily on Microsoft’s performance-based executive long-term incentive program, the Shared Performance Stock Award Program. Additionally, the incumbent in this role will act as the technical expert for accounting and securities regulations as well as heavily assist in the development of materials for the Compensation Committee of the Board of Directors. The incumbent will be responsible for planning and driving the annual processes from development through execution and support throughout the year. The position will successfully manage the input and involvement of several senior-level stakeholders from our Legal and Corporate Affairs group, Human Resources, Finance and Management Reporting, and members of Microsoft’s business divisions.
Program Owner, Shared Performance Stock Award Program
- Design
- Makes design recommendations regarding program mechanics
- Consults with program metric owners regarding the selection, definition, and measurement of program metrics
- Designs and recommends program administration procedures
- Project Management
- Project manage all aspects of the annual design cycle; including developing the timelines and interdependencies across functions and the corporate rhythm of business
- Establish and lead a cross functional group for ongoing program administration; the group will include representatives from finance, executive compensation, stock administration, legal and the business/corporate metric owners
- Manage a SharePoint site for the SPSA/SPI team and maintain all relevant policies, documents, working files, historical files on the site
- Work with stock administration teams and financial accounting on the administration of the program to ensure the stock grant data is accurate and is being properly forecasted
- Works with HRIT and other resources to define system business specifications
- Communications
- Manage the Shared Performance Stock Award Metric site with responsibilities for site design and management of content updates on metric performance throughout the performance period
- Prepare materials and presentations on incentive plans that will be used in meetings with or by Senior Executives and Board of Directors members
- Ensure that program objectives are effectively communicated, articulated throughout the organization, including the use of electronic modeling tools and intranet postings
Technical Expert, Accounting and Securities Regulations
- Provide guidance on on-going technical issues
- Partner with finance and equity accounting to ensure appropriate accounting of stock-based compensation
- Participate in the development of the annual proxy statement
- Work closely with legal on various regulatory issues related to executive compensation and securities law
Compensation Committee support
- Supports the creation of meeting materials for the Compensation Committee of the Board of Directors
Ideal Candidate
- Minimum of 7 years of progressively responsible compensation experience, including incentive program design. Experience with business metric development and measurement desired
- Demonstrated ability to lead a cross functional team that delivers results, using cross group collaboration and influence management among resources not directly under one’s control
- Superior data analysis skills and demonstrated ability to draw meaningful conclusions and action plans on the basis of quantitative data, employee survey data, competitive data and anecdotal managerial and employee observations.
- Understanding of relevant FASB, SEC and IRS rules and regulations: FAS123, proxy disclosure rules, 162(m), 409A
- Ability to contribute to the design of incentive programs that are effective in motivating results and optimizing performance
- Superior process implementation and project management skills.
- Ability to create complex Excel modeling tools in support of compensation programs
- Strong verbal and written communication and presentation skills, with an ability to succinctly summarize complex business metrics and program components into executive and participant communications.
- Experience in managing programs and projects that require automation and building business specifications for the automation
