Rapidly growing biotech startup is in need of a Human Resources Vice President for their multinational operation. Client has facilities in the US, Canada, Mexico, UK and Singapore.
Reporting to the SVP, Corporate Strategy, the VP of Human Resources is responsible for the overall leadership and management of the Human Resources function for all units of the organization including Sales & Marketing, Engineering, Operations and R&D by providing effective human resources management support in organizational development, employee development, retention strategy, training, efficiencies, staffing, employee relations, policies and procedures interpretation, compensation and benefits implementation and administration in partnership with corporate, management and employees. The successful candidate will build strategic working partnerships with management staff throughout the international organization and will contribute to the overall design, communication, and administration of employee development and training programs, career opportunities staffing, EEO programs, policies, and procedures for the Company. Candidates should be well versed in handling international HR issues and possess the ability to exercise a high degree of discretion and initiative in successfully dealing with a wide variety of employee issues both domestic and internationally
Specifically, the VP of Human Resources will:
- Support and recommend innovations to employee development and training initiatives for the workforce at large; implement developmental and staffing strategies to ensure effective recruitment, screening, selection and retention of quality employees
- Consult and coach management and employees alike regarding career development and training.
- Direct and counsel management and employees on employee retention and relations issues.
- Oversee all unemployment compensation and workers comp responses and attend hearings as needed.
- Counsel employees and managers and resolve issues such as policy and procedure interpretation, performance, absenteeism, termination, harassment and discrimination.
- Provide fair and consistent application of company policies and ensure employee knowledge of same.
- Oversee, coach and facilitate responses from the HR staff to employees with specific benefit questions and ongoing usage issues.
- Travel periodically to clients groups/ field, including ride-alongs and attendance at meetings as needed to ensure high level of support for client group.
- Main point of contact for Operations, International payroll and IT in regards to all International HR Matters;
- Establish and manage all international activities for expatriate, rotational and national labor positions;
- Research and develop expatriate, rotational and national policies ensuring market competitiveness and compliance with regional legislation;
- Identifies legal requirements and government reporting regulations affecting International Human Resources functions and ensures policies, procedures, and reporting are in compliance.
- Develop processes and polices for various international assignments.
- Manage all relocation requirements for expatriate mobilizations, including short and long term assignments to ensure they are completed in an efficient and timely manner;
- Develop processes for expatriate allowance calculations, completions of surveys etc. and provide guidance and support on immigration requirements;
- Implement Benefit and Retirement program for International employees.
- Directs Benefits Administration on expatriate benefits programs.
- Understand expatriate taxation implications applicable to each country;
Job Requirements Include:
- HR/business-related bachelor’s degree and/or equivalent.
- 15+ years of related experience, with 5+ years in an international HR position, preferably in Asia.
- Ability to strongly contribute to creating an environment where others can flourish, be creative, develop and grow.
- Proven track record in management and relationship building.
- Intermediate level of proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, HRIS, PC systems in general.
- Extensive knowledge of and ability to coach, counsel, and consult and develop others with employees and management.
- Excellent verbal/written communication (internal & external customers), interpersonal, leadership, negotiation, decision-making, planning, presentation, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently to meet assigned project deadlines.
- Proven team player with remote locations, headquarters, distribution centers, sales force, etc.
- PHR and/or SPRH preferred.
- MBA strongly desired
