Enlightened employers know that older workers bring wisdom, maturity, and experience to the table, but too often, it seems, that doesn't translate into a level playing field in the interview.

Eating Our Own Dog Food

Have you ever heard the phrase, "eating your own dog food"? It was coined by a product manager at Microsoft back in the '80s and soon became a motto for using the products you make...and a challenge to live by their quality.

Considering I got my start exporting pet foods to Japan, there were times when I wouldn't want to take that challenge literally, Readers – but here at TheLadders, I did indeed chow down and get my awful resume professionally rewritten. (I'm not going anywhere, by the way – I love my job too much – but a resume is an important calling card for more than just job interviews.)

Now it's the turn of Alex Douzet, TheLadders.com's president and co-founder, who hadn't had a resume since before we started TheLadders.com six years ago...so long ago, in fact, that everything was scattered around the Web, not in a resume at all!

Alex turned to one of our professional resume writers, Irene Marshall, to turn those scraps into a document that really sells his brand.

Resume writer Irene went through Alex's LinkedIn profile, then worked with him directly to put meat on those bones. "His profile said he helped establish TheLadders. 'What did you do?' I had to ask him. He wrote the business plan and raised $800,000 and then another $7 million. That was good. Did you hire and manage the key staff? Well, yes he did. That's important."

Basically, folks, Irene was able to ask Alex all the questions he wouldn't have thought to ask himself.

And here's Alex's new resume.

What does he think? "I look good in that resume," Alex says. "I felt that Irene had done a great job at presenting and positioning my achievements over the past 15 years. Hiring Irene was like hiring a top-tier advertising agency to produce my marketing campaign."

That's why we're here, Readers. We know a professional resume isn't an option – it's a necessity.

Good hunting this week, Readers!
